Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday announced the launching of a competition to challenge future architects to come up with an architectural concept for a new global campus for the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center.

The new campus of NOLITC, currently located at the Paglaum Sports Complex building, will be at the newly acquired property of the provincial government in Talisay City, the governor said.

The proposed new name of NOLITC that will be expanding its course offerings is the Negros First Global Institute of Technology, but the provincial government is open to further suggestions, he added.

The governor said the architectural students who come up with the winning architectural plan for the global campus will receive a grand prize of P100,000 from the provincial government.

The first runner-up will get P25,000, second runner up – P15,000 and consolation prizes will be P5,000 each from the United Architects of the Philippines –Negros chapter, he added.

The governor said architecture students of La Consolacion College and Southland College have been invited to join the contest.

A briefing on the contest will be held on October 9, submission of entries on November 27 and the awarding of winners will be on December 6.

Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways is also seeking road right of way through property recently purchased by the provincial government in Bacolod City, the governor said.

The road right is being sought for the planned economic highway through Bacolod City, he added.

This will be good for the provincial government because it will not have to spend to build the road through the property, he said.

The governor said that, to ease traffic congestion, the city government needs to clear public roads of squatters.*CPG
